Why hasn't China started giving benefits to families for having girl babies yet? By now they know they have a problem- not enough women due to their atrocious population control policies. Wouldn't they start now to correct the problem?
Chinese politics are interesting because its always been about keeping order. If chaos sweeps across the land, that means the current government has lost the mandate of heaven and it's time for someone else to conquer everything and re-establish order. The current lot are communist enough, to where they'd probably laugh at the idea of the mandate of heaven, but you can be sure they want to hold on to that mandate for all they've got. So, they are not as communist as they could be; they understand economic freedom.
So, unless they expect to lose a lot of men in battle, or something, why aren't they actively promoting the birth of girls? Yes, I know they've banned checking the sex of the baby before abortions, but that's not going to help with the deficit that is already there.
