The Question of the Firefly

Does finding out why the firefly glows destroy the awe that you first felt when you saw those tiny lights in the night?

The firefly has such a common, mundane, even predictable motivation, yet it's action creates wonder and provides value far beyond the intent or understanding of the firefly.

That's the way of things. It's never the other way around. The firefly cannot, by seeking to light up the night, provide for the common needs of life. No, any firefly enamoured with its own light will surely die, and no future generations will come from that particular firefly.
