Weirdness in D.C.

The American Papist just put up a story about the District of Columbia requiring all chartered buses to purchase a $50 permit to go to anything in the District of Columbia. In other words, if the person operating the bus doesn't buy this permit the bus can't enter the city legally.

Something aint' right about that. See, this is where a government wakes up one day and says, hey we can make a lot of money AND we can use this to stop people we don't like from protesting. Are they setting up checkpoints? Will the words, "Papers Please", or some equivalent be heard?

Sure, it's just for chartered buses right now, but if they can do it for chartered buses they'll eventually justify doing for any vehicle. The Dept. of Homeland Security could step in and make D.C. safe for all bureacrats, who would never again have to be offended by seeing a pro-life rally in their city. We've already got plenty of reason to equate protestor with terrorist anyway, right?

Yeah, I know, it sounds alarmist.
