Piper Notices The Truth in the Lie

John Piper notices one can learn from the Pharisees:
Twice they say that truth-telling depends on freedom from the fear of man.
The relevant scripture:
“Teacher, we know that you are true and do not care about anyone’s opinion. For you are not swayed by appearances, but truly teach the way of God.” (Mark 12:14)

For a deception to be truly plausible, it must contain some truth. And, if all your friends believe it and cheer it, how much easier it is for you to silence the questions in your mind and follow the crowd. This is true whether your crowd is from the local high school or your crowd consists of very responsible church going adults. The deceptions will simply be a bit different. For the sophisticated crowd, a more sophisticated deception.
