The Rehabilitation of Monarchy

Consider our lovely double whopper, Bush/Obama, mind-numbingly vast bailout/stimulus. Has there ever been a king who, in complete selfishness, managed to spend more money than our leaders have out of supposed altruism?

A bad king tries to satisfy every desire and whim, but as great as one man's passions may be, they are limited by a king's very humanity. If nothing else, the wages of sin will be paid to him. The modern politician, however, has designs on remaking the world. The utopia seekers ultimately become far more dangerous than the selfish. The mirage is always just a bit further down the road, so even as the evidence of destruction piles up around us, they will insist we keep spending.
And their ideas have this annoying tendency to stay around after their death, like Marx and Keynes.
