The flag has long outlasted the Republic for which it stands.
There are other entities worth remembering, humans to love, and freedoms more basic for which to be fighting.
And the stupid can't even understand the rules, so of course they don't play fair.
This may be the Achilles' heel of libertarianism. We require non-coercion but accept self-defense. Unfortunately it is more likely for the intellectually challenged to consider anything that causes anger as justification for 'self-defense.' In addition, we believe in property rights- so a libertarian society either descends into madness or iterates over a few generations into something similar to aristocracy.
Either way, it's a long way from the symbolism of independence day.
