Data-Cooking

Eric Raymond says, with regard to CRU code:

This, people, is blatant data-cooking, with no pretense otherwise.

See, there aren't just a few emails that environmentalists can shrug off by suggesting that we are all a bit snarky when we speak privately among our tribe; there is code. There happens to be many code literate people on the internet. And among those of us who are not, many of us know Eric Raymond's reputation.

I hope the politicians don't make this any harder than it has to be. Policies promulgated in the name of global warming have always been illegitimate here in the U.S. because they have always impinged on our freedoms in ways unconstitutional. Now they've just lost their rationalization. Just quietly drop this stuff, get the crap policies you have passed repealed, and perhaps even get out of funding science, so that scientists won't get tempted to do crap like this anymore.

But the cynic in me thinks there may be an attempt or two, by politician and pseudo-scientist alike, to cripple the internet soon, while those of us who have educated ourselves far beyond the propaganda on television are still a small fraction of the population. Then again, I suppose we will always be a small fraction of the population, but at some point some of us could effectively out compete the 'experts' of this age, which I suppose I am already arguing Eric Raymond has done in this case.
