The Anchoress wonders about Obama's portable press kit and why official White House people would dare release photos of it.

I’ll be honest, my first reaction to both of those pictures was that they were photoshops. Whoever is choosing what photos get released by the White House needs to be fired. Do they think these pictures reassure us, or that it makes Obama look commanding? They’re quite wrong. These pictures make the President look like an insecure fool.

You know what that's supposed to be? That sort of pseudo-documentary shot that's supposed create a sense of intimacy- right before the great man gets up and delivers that really important speech. They don't know it's a lousy picture because all they've ever had to work with are lousy pictures. They create a set, put their actor in it, and man, does he ever need big ugly aliens for enemies, and Shakespeare for a speech writer. Reality just doesn't serve him well as far as subject matter is concerned. Nobody considered that in the context of a movie in which the entire freaking world may end, one of these behind-the-scenes style shots may actually work, but in the real world where we know we will be forced to endure this man droning on until 2012...
