A Way To Return To Good Journalism

Imagine X.

Word associate with X.

Write all these words out on a board.

Now, X does something newsworthy, so you need to write something about X.

Write about X without using any of the words on the board.

This would require you to actually cover the event, rather than using an event to rehash your stupid preconceptions.

Imagine a newspaper actually doing this, with editors picking out the most highly correlated words and banning them. How nice it would be, for instance, if consensus was stricken from any article about global warming. Somebody might find actually writing news articles is a better business model than writing propaganda.

Note: It's a commenter, not the journalist who made the association in the above link, but it an association that has been made often enough in the press.
