Tangible Authority

I remember a professor, back in my college days, who taught English.
She was extremely blond, pretty, and nobody could take her seriously.
We guys would have liked to date her, but we just couldn't take her criticism of our work seriously. The ladies taking the class basically hated her.

I agreed with the class assessment of her as a teacher for a while, but two things happened. The first thing that happened to me was that one of my friends gave me his paper to read. His paper was incredibly bad, and I would have failed him; she gave him a C. Then, one day, she told the entire class we didn't know what we were talking about. Her point was, she knew good writing, and none of this was really open for discussion. In the end, if we wanted a good grade we had to write the way she wanted. I was, perhaps, a little incensed, but I decided to write the way she wanted.

She did know about writing. Turns out, everything else was just a distraction.
