Another Example of Group Morality

Do you remember the game where one person had to whisper a message to another, and this would go on down a line of people? I think we had at least ten people in the line. Anyway, the message was written down, and then the whispering began, with each person trying to repeat exactly what he heard. The end result was always garbled, and often completely different from what was written down.
Now, just pretend it is not a game. Suddenly the information is important and you know the group is failing you. Now, replace the ten people or so with just one person willing to lie to you.
There you go.
The group can have the same effect as a liar, and yet no one is lying. We shouldn't just shrug our shoulders at this; we have to learn to change.
