It seems like there is a hodgepodge of discussion about the enemy, much of which tends to err against the doctrine of free will. At best, the power of the dark side is much like the power of anyone willing to sit around and keep bothering you about something. Deception, persistence, and appeals to one's ego can lead one down quite the errant path.
I imagine that, in the course of these conversations, one would hear, "You do care don't you?", among other things, of course. Outright appeals to sin and fear are easier to spot, but emotional appeals to the ego can slide by.
And the game is to get one to commit to a course of action based on destructive tendencies and/or false understanding of the truth. The surprisingly bad instances of possesion and the like occur after a long stream of these ill-made decisions. Which is why making costs and benefits very clear is more than just an economic or political necessity.
