Bias in Daily Life

I read Overcoming Bias. Last night I realized I had a bias, but I seriously wondered how that information could help me.

When evidence tends to confirm my suspicions, I am aware that I can be filtering out the evidence that would refute my suspicions, but at what point can I feel reasonably sure that I have given enough weight to such things? Do I get extra points for just thinking about it?

I know I have bias, but in many cases it seems it's still appropriate to believe what I am biased to believe, and frankly, I tend to think those who just can't think at this level are happier than I am, because they don't have to regularly confront the possibility that they could be wrong.

Nor do they understand the massive damage that can be done by acting on the wrong conclusions.
