Suspicion of mother, father, pastor, etc...
An ever changing parade of experts and a body of knowledge that are allegedly scientific.
If one group of experts is proven wrong, simply move to the next and proclaim this new batch knows new things which will produce better results.
Repeat indefinitely.
The genius of this? People, being people, do screw up. Some fathers are terrible. So you can get a lot of mileage out of that. What few notice is that there are many fathers; attack the father's leadership role and you easily centralize power. It's far better than the barrel of a gun as far as persuasion is concerned, because you can convince people that you actually have their best interests at heart.
