One Good Outcome

If you read April DeConick's reaction to last night's debate, you'll notice something- bitter dissappointment.
And, I suspect, if Obama does get elected, those who vote based on race will find themselves just as dissappointed. I remember seeing a poll recently that 96% of blacks will vote for Obama, and my educated guess here is that this is not a reflection of Obama's stand on issues, for blacks tend to have rather conservative views when asked about specific policies.
Anyway, back to April:

Women have fought so hard to be able to break into politics, against stereotypes that we are intellectually inferior to men and can't go the distance
and
I saw a woman who, because she didn't know enough about the subjects and thus refused rudely to answer the posed questions, resort to flirting. I saw her wink and use voice and body language that was inappropriate to a professor, let alone a VP presidential candidate who might become a President one day.

Wouldn't it hurt really bad to engage in such a battle, only to have a person you believe fundamentally incompetent to slink on in to the top? Wouldn't it force you to rethink your mentality, that maybe the struggle you thought was so important might not be? If you think Palin as VP candidate hurts, wait for Obama as president for four years. I have no doubt the man will be more embarassing than Bush is to Republicans right now.

In either case, imagine how tragic it would be to the identity politics. How would they write their little 'first woman/black man/baywatch fan' who became President books, without crying? How could they continue to propagandize our children with their tripe with such profound evidence standing in their way?
