Fr. Philip posts about those pro-Obama Catholics. They keep making up stupid arguments and refusing to repent:
Catholic Obama apologists like Kmeic will argue that B.O.'s economic policies will do a better job reducing the overall number of abortions. (Sorry comfort for those babies aborted while mom waits for the economy to improve!)
So, seriously, how much of a mitigating factor is stupidity?
Look, there is fast becoming little to no reason to vote Republican, but there hasn't been a single reason to vote Democrat in most elections for my entire life!
In fact, the entire problem with Republicans now are that they are the Democrat-lite party. Not only is the argument wrong- because we should be ending abortion, and in a far more blunt way than nominating judges, but the very premise is wrong- Obama's economic policies will cause more pain than McCain's. This is not because McCain's policies are right, they are both horribly wrong for similar fundamental reasons, but the degree to which they are wrong differs.
A similar situation exists on the life issue. McCain says he's pro-life, but he's okay with embryonic stem cell research. It's not a good idea to vote for McCain either, but one can make an argument for it, precisely because Obama is worse.
Apparently these people are really trying to make the case lately, but now more bishops are coming out and swatting their talking points down.
