Mother's Milk And Problems Unseen

Baby formula is a staggeringly poor substitute for the real thing, and yet, people actually pay for baby formula. They pay to give substandard nutrition to their children. Of course, they probably don't know this. Now, politicians, as a class, are pretty happy about this because it generates 'growth'. In the natural world, mother's would just breastfeed their babies, but in the let's-have-gobs-of-economic-growth-so-I-can-get-re-elected world, it's just fantastic that some corporation has figured out how to use the excess corn and soybeans and make another sale. If the kids get sick from lack of real nutrition, well, that's just another excuse to sell mommy some baby drugs. More sales to make the economy look healthy.

But, now that we know the economy isn't healthy, perhaps it's worth looking into the cheaper, healthier alternative. The money spent on formula and all the health problems afterward is better spent elsewhere. I don't know where else, exactly, which is why I am not arrogant enough to spend other people's money on a bunch of 'infrastructure' projects. It's just possible we will end up with a lot of excess infrastructure that nobody uses because they are too sick from years of bad nutrition, which came about thanks to government subsidies of corn, among other things.
