An Ochlophobic Anti-Pledge
I refuse to pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and I refuse to pledge allegiance to the republic for which some assert that flag stands. The notion that the United States are in any meaningful sense (apart from federal law and shared commercials and American Idol and WalMart) 'one nation' is increasingly strained - it is rather a cacophony of ideological cliques, socio-economic ghettos, all being homogenized into a post-cultural blather - coerced homogeneity not being the unity which many infer with the use of the word 'one.' I do not believe that the United States are any more or less under God than any other nation - all nations will fail and end and stand under God's judgment. His interests are not the interests of the nations, and He is bound to act on no nation's behalf, nor does He love or support any one group of people above another, and if He did, the thought that He would prefer the United States makes a mockery of His own precepts. All nations are divisible, and persons who assert otherwise are grossly ignorant of history or deluded by nationalism or both. There has never been liberty and justice for all in this nation. Our nation was born venerating the cults of genocide and slavery. The federal government and parties protected by it have routinely used and abused U.S. citizens and continue to do so today. The U.S. is currently run by a corporo-statist oligarchy committed to limiting and removing justice and freedom for most. I pledge nothing to the state other than to keep any commitments to it I happen to have made and to disobey it, when I do, in a civil manner, and I pledge to dissent from the actions of those who manipulate the state for their ends. I stand for what I stand on. Please leave me and my family alone and keep your nationalist rituals away from us.
