I have long suspected the engineering idea is going to be problematic.

Selection is currently being resisted because it ultimately requires a more conservative moral attitude, especially among women. The pay off is huge, because children who are significantly better off can afford a lot better than a crappy old folks home. But it takes time for the mores to change.
